always i confused between bernard and henri levy. Just finished 'le premier jour' not bad at all. I will wait a while before reading the 'la premiere nuit'. I find the story a bit uneventful though, by that i mean i was expecting more 'interiorisation' of the characters. It read like a fast pace grisham. please read the metalink or the ocfs blogger. There are many features. So far the access seems to be more stable, but i am disappointed that ocfs2 has only one private lan for interconnet...not cool..i will need to use 'network teaming' to have some resilience.

Unbreakable Kernel.

we have upgraded the Oracle Unbreakable from version 5.2 to 5.5.
What we did was:-
we install an http server with the 5.6 kernel as repository.
we boot on a 5.6 DVD and upgraded the beast to the normal XEN kernel.
Then, we reconfigure YUM on the server to access the repository..

we yum install yum-utils, yum install kernel*, yum install oracle-*, yum install ocfs2*

why all this gimmick..I was unsure about the support and problem potential of upgrading an ocfs 1.4 to ocfs 1.6

Unbrekable kernel works ok, so far, i have not seen the 'memory leakage' of the 5.2 kernel..

System Tablespace issue.

Discovered something, you can get weird behaviour on oracle R11.07 rac if you have system on a slower filesystem. we have discovered that a LUN confugured with a slower SYSTEM tablespace gave the database funny behaviours. And of course gave R12.1 funnier behaviours. Transactions not completing..select count(*) from obj took ten minutes etc. So, when you create a SAN be careful on how the file system is created, use RAD10 or RAID5 only (or others with stripping option).

Another hint, upgrade OCFS to latest version, but be warned ocfs version must be same as the kernel version. uname -a for kernel version and rpm -qa | grep ocfs for ocfs.

good luck..it took us ages to get that one right.

haha, haha, Finally, we are rocking with that major project we were all working on. It is a very complex beast, which ultimately will rest with the users. Even the architecture of the product is complex. Boy, i miss the simple database and vb client solution!! That enterprise scenario consists of database, application server, web server, load balancer, mobile server,datawarehouse.. The good news, is that we are using linux albeit oracle flavor as the core apps...

It was love at first sight. It has been some time that i have not gone through the code of some badass malware. Cornficker, has been brilliantly written and designed. But make not mistake, this baby probably can bring the whole net on its knees with a couple of keystroke probably coming from germany or eastern europe. I was particularly impressed by the fact that these guys are cutting edge with encryption..They are using md6..dude, and it is not even ratified. the peer to peer is a bit over my head at this stage, i will get a demo up and check the eco-system behavior.

Guys, i am having a lot of issue with the cisco 4.x vn client on vista. I have discovered a number of things.

we do not need a lot of item over ethernet adapter, 'bonjour' from apple obtained from itune is well damm bad.

vmware needs to be unassociated from the cisco vpn adapter

sometimes we need to repair the adpater which to be always in a disable mode.

several items have to be disable namely ipv5, vmware, etc..

This book albeit a scifi in some sense, is just more than that. It is a mythological and historical lanscaping of the american myth. It requires some 'erudite' knowledge of world history. Neil Gaiman, is a good author, the book is well written, intelligent, astute and somewhat melancolic. It is a goodbye to the old world and a wlecome to the new world, but only to certain extent. Is shadow the 'king' ? I am not sure, but he is merely someone who is honest enough to the whole world. The wifey role is well tantalising, this is love beyond the grave. But, the icing on the cake is how she died with a **** in her *****... for well, friendship sake. Anansi and czenogord are excellent characters who gaiman will need to develop in the spinoff..or is this already so..?

I have installed Oracle R12 on a LInux box. Well, if you call that box.. It is a PC with a single core celeron 3Ghz , 2 GB RAM, 250Gb SATA drive. I downloaded both the Oracle Version R5 from http://edelivery.oracle.com and then the R12 version from http://edelivery.oracle.com. I installed the x64 version. The speed is ok and so does the patching. Please do note that although it is an oracle version of linux (unbreakable) i strongly recommend that you read the metalink ID:416305.1

what is important after install is getting these patch in.. I spent some time with a bug of the java client not coming up as the openmotif library was not up to standard.

I have finished the dreaming void book of peter hamilton. A good yarn, but it is not a space opera. it seems to me that the inigo's saga is more an inward looking book on how to write a medieval book on politics whilst doing a scifi space opera. But save for the very long chapter on salrana, kristabel and the 'waterwalker' and mates, the book does have some astute ideas. in a nutshell, the void is an X dimension which acts as a virtual reality endgame whilst consuming world as power source i.e. E=MC2...

Got my hand on a wii modded for christmas.

Nice machine, not powerful but the play model of the wiimote is a different experience in itself. I am working on what type of mods was place on the station.

The good news is that finally after 35 years, i managed to held a lightsaber and thrash some items.

i will post some simple hacks on how to program next week.

Oracle R12 on Vista

Oracle R12 is not certified on vista for a reason, it is darn well difficult to install. I have managed to get past the install screen with some tweaking on the installation script which basically fools java into thinking that it is windows XP. But as of now, i have a corrupt oracle apps stage area (i hope), I will sort this out asap, then attempt yet another install.

I have been working/playing with that monster for quite some time now. Indeed it is a large and complex project. We have installed that on a 'clean' windows 2003 machine with quad core/4GB ram, 200GB HD. Still after a while we get the 404 http error. we have not found out the root of the problem as yet. we feel that it may to do with the service starting in different order. (we attempted to install solarwinds on that same test environment). I will keep u posted.

p.s: ebs requires:- cygwin, (the modifications of the exes for cygwin), java installed, space...

I have got some stuff from the amazon crowd. I have just finised 'spin'. I would not say it is a world changing book, but it does the trick in making us ponder on the finite nature of us. We are finite biologically speaking and species speaking. Finite, cause the sun will become a red giant in one billion year, the universe will expand forever and making the world around a cold and dire place. But, hey we still go SGA so why bother :-)

I have installed the latter on one machine (dual core, 1GB RAM). so far so good nothing major, except there are some changes to the interface and changes in the way the 'role' of the machine can be affected.

I will do some test on the following:-

1. performance evaluation as compared to XENapp
2. Test of Oracle 11g on it (not certified as of 08/04/2008).

I got that book after reading a review from salon.
I thought this item was about survival, indeed it was, but the writing was so nihilist that i went numb after a while. Although the scenery was not repetitive i wonder how bad it meant to portrait an unknown catastrophy. Finally no clue on what happened in the world, but it looks to be a neutron bomb war of some kind or some solar eruption of some kind killing all life. probably the latter rather than the former.

I can say one thing..'mind over matter'. the movie, well it is a sam raimi anyway, is very well done with a possibility of it happening when you are 'out there' on your own.

Mysql 5.x Adding New users.

I tried to create a new user with the mysql admin tool on windows (version 5.x) but ot no avail. Is there a bug with domain servers ? the message was '...dataset has changed..refresh your result set..'.. Although I had no-one opened. I wonder...

Anyway I used the good old method of starting the command line and adding the user manually..

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'root'@'max.here.com' identified by 'XXXXX';

most people forget the quote '' on the user 'root' or otherwise..

u have too usually to flush privileges after this command.

I have finished finally the book baudolino by umberto eco. I have been reading that book on and off for the past five years. Well, baudolino is not as fun as umberto's other book but it is an erudite travel in european medieval history and myth. It is well researched for the given time period. The tough bit seems to be afeter everythinh done and said in a lifetime, very few are those that matter most. I guess the description of the hypatia, skiapod and other mythical beast are from the travel of marco polo. I will attak that one next.

Oracle 10g on Fedora Core 8

Yes, installing oracle 10g on fc8 is a pain. But there are two avenues on how to do it.

1. Download the dizwell script and run it with two parameters.

Download the script, save it with the .sh extension and give the execute permission to it.

chmod u+x doris.sh

to run the script do the following.

./doris.sh fedora8 10g

./

but if you have hacked your linux beyond reckon, such a me, it is better to run each step one by one.

otherwise d'ont mess aroung run DORIS !!!

2. otherwise install the oracle db as per instructions below.

a. download oracle for your architecture. Be careful ! i tried to install a x64 version on i386, there was no such error as 'wrong architecture' !!! It was more a linking error of some sort.

b. modify the parameters of linux to make it suitable for Oracle. refer to the installation guide.

c. in a nutshell, follow 5. i.e. create a group 'dba' and a user 'oracle'

d. modify the kernel parameters as per 6. in /etc/sysctl.conf

kernel.shmall = 2097152
kernel.shmmax = 2147483648
kernel.shmmni = 4096
kernel.sem = 250 32000 100 128
fs.file-max = 65536
net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000
net.core.rmem_default = 1048576

e. modify oracle shell limit

f. create the oracle root and home directories with full access/ownership to the 'oracle' user and 'dba'.

g. modify the .bash_profile for oracle to add the usual oracle parameters e.g. $ORACLE_HOME $ORACLE_SID $ORACLE_BASE

set the lock to the sloppy lock which otherwise will 'crap' xlib
LIBXCB_ALLOW_SLOPPY_LOCK=1

Also, do add those to the .bash_profile

LD_LIBRARY_PATH=\$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib
CLASSPATH=\$ORACLE_HOME/JRE:\$ORACLE_HOME/jlib:\$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/jlib

h. chekc if your internet conn is up and get the 'other' packages which are not supplied with a fedora core install.

The libxcb is critical as without it certain package such as dbca will give a xlib.c line 50 error.

yum --enablerepo=development -y install libxcb.i386

h.instead of clocking i propose that we run the installer with the ignore pre-requiresite. The -jreLoc is to specify the jre location otherwise a funny error happens with the runinstaller. More technical discussions on the sun forums.

./runinstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs -jreLoc /usr/lib/java/jvm

i. ready to install and run.

j. when it has been installed, Don't for get to start the console from:

emctl start dbconsole

k. et voila..

I can say without any doubt that this is the best movie i have seen in 2007 (specially 2day). Will smith is gr8 as the guy on his own trip and yet losing his mind. His dedication to get things back on how it is is simple obsessional. One thing i find is the degree of oppressivity in the movie specially the tense 'hunt' scene. I did not like the way the 'top model' was barge into the movie. (she is not a bad actress..but not knowing bob marley..is treason..!!)

How could she manage in a big city at night ? These 'monsters' seem to be very quick and fast. The book , if i am not mistaken, has a different approach whereby 'legend' is what the monster called smith.

He is their 'dracula' culling hives at night. But the filmaker has skipped that angle. It is too morbid anyway..

I have been watching gossip girl on and off. As a series, it is sort of ok for the OC 'need a fixup' rest of us. But I am kinda of hanging on, on how much we will be able to stretch that one.

The acting is good..surprisingly..I kinda like the actresses doing blair and serena. I wonder if high life society is that bad..We also wonder on how can these kids manage high school..they seem never to study..more interested in socialite..(duh, this is not the real world hans !)..

I think next quarter the writers could add an element of mystery/crime would be more appropriate..socialite tend to be boring for the rest of humanity after a while..but, hey, that's my two cents.

I have just finished the manfredi's book empire of dragons. Not a bad read but a bit weak at the end. I did not like the hollywood cliche about the saviour of the empire lies beneath the ground in 'ancient' technology.

I prefer the Alexander trilogy.

I have read with interest the post on avinash's blog, more specifically the comments.

Point 1: definitely bandwidth is being throttle.

point 2: it is done by almost everybody (isp)

point 3: even in the corporate world we do it. i.e. if i have a 2MB conn to manage and have 150 users, i definitely need to place some serious management tool in place.

Three things come to my mind in mauritius: packeteer distributed by ..., DBAM distributed by ... and finally buckets on SQUID on Linux (Our internal clustered proxy).

What do the isp used ? i can only speculate, packeteer, dbam for sure and maybe even some cache engine such as cachelogic.

but more interesting what can be done.. The bandwidth management is not as dumb as you might think, they have implemented several policies depending on time zone and most importantly service i.e. peer to peer etc.

It depends on what usage is being done with the bandwidth. If you are peer to peering, then try to get a proxy service outside mauritius, better register with one.

otherwise, for the rest..we are all doom...

but if you are into the next step of downloading such as easy-share, rapidshare.com, i would seriously advise you to take the following step.

1. Get a premium account, stop being a leech !
2. Get Mozilla
3. get flashgot
4. get a download manager

MY good old creative jukebox (5GB) has died finally. RIP.. 'The man' seems to be the usual suspect.

what can i do, there seem to be a way out if it is my hard disk..I have come across this article in xtreme tech..I will follow it..but first we buy a hard disk from outpost.

I have finally laid to rest my book persian fire.

A good one, except that it requires really a mental effort to remember the timing of darius, cyrus, xerxes, aristhocles etc.

but it does give you an insight of the mentally of the time, still the themopylae stand is as glorious in writings from tom holland as from steven pressfield.

I am also working on having oracle 10g installed on fedora core 8. God, one would not believe how much java or fedora is broken...I should have avoided the narcissism of latest and baddest and stick with fedora core 7.

heroes 2x10..hmm..how do i rate it A or B..'A' because of the last bit, totally unexpected albeit the 'saev the world' thing is getting a bit out of hand...

I had a chat yesterday on who is the most powerful of them all..hmm...sylar, petrelli ? or adam..

I would also rate the show as 'B'. Frankly, i have not been impressed as yet, there are far too many subplots..we need simpler chores guys..

The enemy (adam and sylar) do not seem powerful enough...any comic which is self-respecting has to 'hand us ', users, the alacrity of having a baddy that we can admire..otherwise..

is a there a batman without a joker ? a superman without lex luthor ?

Sylar has lost its gist and well, adam is not scary enough..more slimy i would say..

one question heroes writers, if sylar needed to be locked in a room with no key, why was he not thrown in deep space..I kinda not foresee that primatech is so not into the 'death penalty'..

No respite..watched heroes 2x08 yesterday..excellent..Sark (whatever his name is) is well gr8t ! He is the 'hiro nakamura' of this season. I felt that the plot initially was weak with zakary quinto lame and meek..(impotent).

Now i am starting to feel a rush forward. Is Adam that bad, is the company bad ? Did hiro create 'alqaeda' when he went to check out feudal japan ?

I am kinda disappointed with the Ali Later angle, what are her powers exactly 'bipolarism' ? Then i have a lot of mates who are heroes (!) actually i may have couple of colleagues who will fit the bill superbly.

Is there a shortage of wii on the market ? it seems so. I have ordered a wii from expansys about a week ago and i am still waiting for a shipment date...

Another thing about wii is the lack of development support. there seem to be no pen source project on this device. I will investigate and keep u guys posted.

Well, the classical first post..This blog will be on anything that cross my mind wherever and whenever i can get hold of something. I will try new things such as posting vids, mp3 and other items from far afield. I believe that human machine interaction has grown far beyond the realm of the keyboard. Once i had a chat with a professor of ***, he was on about pervasive computing...this is part or the beginning of it.

if the sky is blue ( <----- good site to check btw) enough i will definitely go on rantings on politics, science adn other peculiarities that are affecting the life of ordinary citizens. But i reckon it will be more insular and more focussed on my experience with the day to day of life...
